The opposition parties have been shouting at the top of their voices against the use of Electronic Voting Machines after landslide victory of BJP in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. AAP has raised its concern as Congress went to win Punjab pretty comfortably; however, all these allegations against EVMs were rejected by the Election Commission. But now there have been reports that EVMs sent to Madhya Pradesh for Bhind election are not functioning properly and there are chances that frauds can take place with these machines.
It so happened that during the demonstration exercise, the voter-verifiable paper audit trail machine produced a slip with BJP symbol while the button pressed by the Chief Electoral Officer was of Samajwadi Party. A detailed report has been asked by the EC over the incident.
The Election Commission spokesperson said,
“We have sought a detailed report from district election officer and would come up with a response in the evening.”
The opposition party, Congress, has demanded that EVMs should be scrapped after this incident.

However, all these allegations of malfunction of EVMs have been denied by the Chief Electoral Officer Saleena Singh, as she told Hindustan Times,
“When you have a fully calibrated machine, this cannot happen like this. But they [journalists] misrepresented the facts without trying to understand the whole issue.”
The video of this incident is already going viral on the social media, in which Saleena Singh can be seen threatening media persons not to report this incident or be ready for police action.

The Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo Mayawati also took up this matter after her party’s shameful defeat in UP elections. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was also speaking on her lines after his party got defeated in Punjab.
The SC has already issued a notice to the EC on March 24 after a petition was filed which stated that EVMs used in the elections and Mumbai civic polls were tampered and they should be checked by software experts from foreign country.
